The Idaho Community Foundation awarded North Star Child
Development Center with a grant for $4,345 to provide playground
equipment to meet the needs of all of our students, regardless of
ability or disability!
The funds were awarded to North Star to purchase playground
equipment specially designed to meet the needs of our students
with disabilities. .
The grant was submitted by Jason Henderickson, an intern and
now a Developmental Therapist here at North Star. Jason did a
phenomenal job in submitting this grant and we are so pleased to
now have him on our staff.
The grant award allowed us the opportunity to purchase
equipment that will truly enhance children's ability to play and
engage in the playground. The ADA approved Rainbow Play System
comes with 'Grab and Go' handrails to assist in learning to slide
and helping with balance, enclosed rail panels for safety, and
handrails to assist children in learning to climb.
Our children are also learning to balance on our new curved
balance beam, learning to play basketball with the easy shot, and
are learning to ride a bike with our new cycle circle! Typical
playgrounds do not provide this type of equipment and children
with special needs often do not get the opportunity to play.
ICF's mission is to enrich the quality of life by helping to enrich
non-profit businesses like ours with the resources and tools to be
successful.
The Herbert D. McAvoy Fund in the Idaho Community Foundation
was the grantor.
